Individual Therapy

Individual therapy is the mainstay of psychotherapy and the most recommended form of therapy for most forms of emotional distress. It is useful to explore and work with personal and interpersonal issues that you may be facing at depth, in a safe, caring, and confidential environment. A lot of the work of a therapist is in listening, attuning, attending and engaging with your experiences and your needs. This is done best on a one-to-one basis with a qualified and experienced therapist. In individual therapy, the therapist is best able to give you her fullest attention.

Sessions are typically an hour long and scheduled for once or twice a week. However, this can be negotiated depending on the course of therapy and the needs of the client. People seek individual therapy for many reasons, from coping with significant life challenges or coming to terms with trauma from childhood to handling depression or anxiety, to just yearning for personal development and deeper self-awareness. A client and therapist could work together for as few as six sessions or as long as several years, depending on the client’s personal needs and goals for psychotherapy.

As opposed to Group and Couples therapy, the focus of Individual Therapy will always be on you and your experiences.
